The NEW Minimum Security Criteria

Today’s global trade environment is faced with new and evolving threats and challenges that the existing criteria are not prepared to address. For that reason, CBP has worked in partnership with the Commercial Customs Operations Advisory Committee (COAC) and industry representatives – including reviews in 2009 and member surveys in 2012 – to modernize and strengthen the MSC. The COAC advices the Dept of the Treasury and The Dept of Homeland Security on CBP’s commercial operations. COAC board members come from all areas of the industry – from businesses and importers to brokers and transportation companies to trade and risk management organizations.

The NEW MSC Timeline

CBP and the trade created a phased approach to the MSC update, which allows for the new criteria to be socialized with a larger pool of CTPAT Members beyond our initial pilot tests. Staged implementation also enables companies to have the time necessary to adopt and incorporate changes.
